Startups for Showcase at Takeda in Shonan, Japan on May 23, 9am-5pm

Deadline: April 1, 2019

Lightning Talk and Exhibitor Opportunity, Organized by MIT Media Lab with contributions from MIT Startup Exchange and Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

We are looking for 5-6 startups to present and exhibit on topics central or peripheral to issues regarding aging in society, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Non-pharmaceutical therapy
  • Pharmaceutical therapy
  • Disease prevention
  • Diagnostics
  • Mobility
  • Surviving with dementia
  • Emotional well-being
  • Patient monitoring
  • Caregiving analytics

The MIT event at Takeda is an opportunity for startups to display their work to an audience of industry professionals and investors in Japan, consisting of approximately 150 invited guests. If you are considering to expand your business to Japan in the near or distant future, this is also an opportunity for you to see first-hand iPark’s evolving ecosystem and to consider anchoring your Japan operations at this unique location. Presenters at the Showcase will have a table space where they can present, demo technology, and network with other participants. Each selected startup will have ~8 minutes to present a lightning talk on a science-based technology they are bringing to market (further details regarding presentation will be shared after selection).

The Showcase will be on Thursday, May 23rd from 9AM-5PM at iPark (2 Chome-26-1 Muraokahigashi, Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture 251-0012, Japan).

Showcase participants will be reimbursed up to $2,500 for travel and hotel for one participant per startup.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Note: selection will be on a rolling basis, so better to apply early.

Please submit an application detailing the following:

  • The problem you are solving
  • The core tech, what is new, and what is difficult about what you are doing
  • The current market traction or other validation
  • What you are planning to accomplish over the coming 12 months, in particular as it relates to industry connections/partnerships in Japan. Elaborate on any current business activity in Japan or Asia.
  • Whether you would be interested in being one of 2 or 3 startups to have a representative on a panel discussion in front of the full audience.

Eligibility criteria: Only MIT startups with an up-to-date profile in MIT Startup Exchange will be considered to speak & exhibit. STEX25 accelerator startups have priority.

Selected startups will be required to do a practice run (30 min session) at a mutually convenient time to be arranged about 2 weeks prior to the event.
