Coca-Cola is looking for new materials

Deadline: March 22, 2022

The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) is holding a challenge to find new affordable and insulating material for cooler glass doors. Contestants have until March 3, 2022 to enter the challenge and compete!

The energy consumption of coolers is very important to TCCC. The same size glass door coolers uses about twice as much energy versus a non-glass door. This is due to the heat loss through the glass. Here on slide 2 you will find different types of glass doors that our coolers are using today. They have different cost implications of course.

This open challenge is to understand if there is anything emerging in this space to provide more insulation but not at incremental cost. We cannot sacrifice on the clear visibility of glass either. Perhaps there are avenues from the construction field that we can borrow some applications or at least get a new source of inspiration to develop improved glass doors for coolers.

Potential next steps may include creating a proof of concept with the startup based on the contributed products/technology and evaluating business opportunities.
